Palm Pre 2 is out in Canada for with 3-year plan
Palm has released Pre 2 in mass availability ahead of CES 2011. This may not be a surprise and Palm has done well catching this week and a half before the holyday shopping season is over. Just one word of warning for those of who will lay their hands upon shiny new Pre 2 in the morning of January 1 – this smartphone comes with a three-year contract. At least now it does. Price is respectively low – at $99 in Canada from Rogers, which is the only carrier selling Pre 2 at the moment of writing, it couldn’t be cheaper, but three years of plan does’t make it a pleasant present which is what really matters right now.
Anyway, it’s a phone, so for a moment we will leave contract aside and remember ourselves what Palm Pre 2 is like as a phone. There are not many smartphone companies left out there who develop their own operating software. Pre 2 runs HP webOS 2 and its performance is yet to see, but there is no doubt that it’s a steady evolution of the original version. So is the hardware. At first glance it is hard to even tell Pre from Pre 2. Their size is almost identical, basic shape is also right there, display has remained of the same size and resolution, so has form factor and it still has its awesome touchstone charging dock. We don’t have any processor figures or RAM/ROM capacities unfortunately, but this is the matter of time. Here is the rest of the specs.
